Privacy Policy
Last updated 20 October 2026
1. Who is responsible
BizBook Technologies (Pty) Ltd (registration [CIPC registration number]), [Physical address], Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is the responsible party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Our Information Officer is [Full name of the Information Officer]. Contact: [privacy email address, can be the same as support].
2. What we collect
- Account details: your mobile number (to sign you in), first name and surname, and an optional @handle and profile photo.
- Your area: the suburb or town you type in. We do not track your GPS location.
- For providers: business or trading name, services, prices, working hours, photos of your work, and, if you choose, your CIPC registration, tax and VAT numbers.
- What you do on BizBook: requests, offers, quotes, bookings, the amounts you confirm, cancellations, reviews, posts, comments, statuses, follows, saved posts and messages.
- Credits and payments: top-ups, fees, holds and refunds. Card payments are handled by Yoco. We never see or store your card number.
- Device details: a notification token so we can send alerts to your phone, and basic technical logs that help us keep the service secure.
3. Why we use it
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To match requests with suitable providers nearby, and to run bookings, messages and reviews.
- To take fees, run credits and keep financial records.
- To keep BizBook safe and fair: hiding contact details, detecting jobs being taken outside the app, handling reports and disputes, and preventing fraud.
- To send you alerts about your requests, jobs, messages and account. You can turn most types off in Settings → Notifications.
- To meet legal duties, for example tax records.
We use your information because it is needed to provide the service you signed up for, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping BizBook safe and fair, because the law requires it, or because you agreed.
4. What other users see
Providers’ storefronts are visible to BizBook users: business name, @handle, area, services, prices, hours, work photos, rating and reviews.
Customers’ first names and areas are shown to providers they deal with, together with how many jobs they have done on BizBook and their recent late cancellations, so providers can decide on a job.
Your phone number is never shown to other users.
5. Automated decisions
Some decisions are made automatically: the order of the Discover feed, which providers receive a request, hiding contact details, and pausing requests or job offers after repeated cancellations. You can ask a person to review any automated decision about you by writing to [privacy email address, can be the same as support].
6. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal information and we don’t show third-party adverts. We share it only with service providers that run parts of BizBook for us, under agreements that require them to protect it:
- Supabase: hosting and database, stored in London, United Kingdom.
- Twilio: sends sign-in codes by SMS (United States).
- Google Firebase: delivers notifications to your phone.
- Yoco: card payments for credits (South Africa).
Because some of these services are outside South Africa, your information may be stored or processed abroad. We only use services bound by data-protection laws or agreements that give protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
7. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your information so the service works.
- When you delete your account, we remove your name, photo, phone number, area, posts, statuses, comments and devices.
- We keep records of bookings, fees, credits and payments without your personal details, for as long as tax and company law require (generally 5 to 7 years).
- Reports and safety records are kept for as long as needed to protect users, and no longer than the law allows.
- If we ever ask for documents to verify a business, we delete them within 90 days of checking.
8. How we protect it
Your information is encrypted in transit. Access is limited by strict database rules, so people only see what they are allowed to see. Payments go through Yoco’s secure checkout. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach ever affects you, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- confirm whether we hold your personal information, and give you a copy;
- correct or update it (most details can be changed in Settings);
- delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it (you can delete your account in Settings);
- stop using it for a purpose you object to.
Write to [privacy email address, can be the same as support]. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
10. Children
BizBook is only for people aged 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information about children. If you think a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
11. Changes
We will update this policy when we change how we handle information, and tell you in the app about important changes. Last updated 20 October 2026.
